We’re here for every student—
helping you discover your true self
through studying abroad.
Evakona Education (formerly English Voyage Academy) was founded in July 2001 in the beautiful seaside town of Whitianga, New Zealand. Our campus is located next to a local high school where I once taught, and Evakona originally began as a support school for international students attending that high school.
During my 11 years teaching Japanese at the neighboring school, I was also responsible for supporting international students. I saw firsthand how every student faced challenges—language barriers, cultural differences, and the difficulties of adapting to a new environment. Through this experience, I came to strongly believe that personalized, attentive support is essential for each student to succeed.
My conviction is also rooted in personal experience. In 1989, I moved to New Zealand as a high school teacher with my three children, then aged 6, 9, and 11. None of them spoke English at the time, and although they enrolled in local schools in Whitianga, the language barrier was significant.
These experiences led me to realize that, regardless of age, international students need specialized English instruction and a comprehensive support system to overcome challenges and adapt smoothly to life in New Zealand.
Evakona was created to meet exactly these needs. Our dedicated teachers and supportive team work closely together every day to ensure that each student has a fulfilling study abroad experience and achieves their goals. I am truly proud of the strong teamwork that defines Evakona.
Another key factor in successful study abroad experiences is the support from caring New Zealand host families, as well as parents in Japan and experienced education agents. It is through the collaboration of all these people that each student is fully supported.
Today, Evakona specializes in high school preparation course. We have two campuses in Whitianga and Thames, both located on the Coromandel Peninsula—one of the most beautiful regions on New Zealand’s North Island.
I believe this is a place where students can find the time and space to discover their true selves. All of us at Evakona look forward to supporting you on that journey and welcoming you to our campus.
